You should consult a urologist for blood in urine, severe flank pain, urinary retention, recurrent infections, persistent prostate symptoms, male infertility concerns or erectile dysfunction that needs medical review.
What a urologist helps with
Urologists assess the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive system. Care ranges from medical therapy and counselling to procedures such as stone treatment, prostate surgery or reconstructive work when appropriate after evaluation.
Warning signs that deserve timely review
- Visible blood in urine
- Inability to pass urine
- Severe flank or abdominal pain suggestive of stones
- Fever with urinary symptoms
- Recurrent infections
- Progressive weak stream, nocturia or incomplete emptying
- Fertility or erectile concerns needing medical input
Situations that are emergencies
Acute retention, heavy bleeding, suspected obstructed infection with fever, or severe uncontrolled pain need urgent in-person care. Do not wait for a routine appointment slot in those settings.
What to bring to a first visit
- Prior lab reports and imaging on disc or printout when available
- Medicine list and allergy history
- A brief symptom timeline (onset, triggers, night-time frequency)
What happens after consultation
You may receive advice, medicines, further tests or a discussion of procedures such as RIRS, ESWL, Mini PCNL, bipolar TURP, laser prostatectomy, VIU, urethroplasty or andrology options when relevant. Plans are individual — discuss uncertainties openly with your clinician.
